Our MA show 2011 has finished successfully and the artists have started to their next journey. Now the departure place of my new journey is Brighton!
Goro was born in Japan in 1974. After graduating from Kuwasawa Design School in Tokyo in 1995, he worked in the graphic design world with computer graphics as an independent illustrator for over ten years. He now focuses on painting, particularly portraiture, and has moved to the UK in 2009 to develop his practice in a more international context.
My portraits are painted integrations or aggregations of variant impressions, memories and information of the object which we unconsciously operate for the communications and relationships with other people. I want to establish a field through which all segments of a face relate to issues of identity and a sense of reality. By distilling each individual impression of the model with instinctive finger painting and impacting and reconstructing them into a singular/series of portrait(s) with vivid colour combinations, my aim is to question the gaps between the facial perception of someone we usually believe is accurate and the image we create in our minds as we see the third person.
