Updating the blog

After a few years I've updated this blog as my English/Japanese website until Original site would be launched. There also is a new site which promote the MA final show 2011 at City and Guilds of London Art School. The link to the site is on the up-right part of this blog. Check it out and I hope you could make time to see at the show!

:オリジナルサイトを立ち上げるまで、以前使っていたブログを改装して代用する事にしました。また右欄にリンクがありますように、私が現在在籍していますCity and Guilds of London Art Schoolでの卒展のサイトもアップされております。会場でお会いできるのを楽しみにしております!

Bio and Statement

Goro was born in Japan in 1974. After graduating from Kuwasawa Design School in Tokyo in 1995, he worked in the graphic design world with computer graphics as an independent illustrator for over ten years. He now focuses on painting, particularly portraiture, and has moved to the UK in 2009 to develop his practice in a more international context.

Goro Shimano

My portraits are painted integrations or aggregations of variant impressions, memories and information of the object which we unconsciously operate for the communications and relationships with other people. I want to establish a field through which all segments of a face relate to issues of identity and a sense of reality. By distilling each individual impression of the model with instinctive finger painting and impacting and reconstructing them into a singular/series of portrait(s) with vivid colour combinations, my aim is to question the gaps between the facial perception of someone we usually believe is accurate and the image we create in our minds as we see the third person.
